Portland Sacred Harp Singing. First Sunday of every month from 1 - 4 p.m. at First Parish in Portland, Maine, 425 Congress Street. Enter front door to the right. This is not a performance -- everyone is welcome to participate. This four-part singing tradition, also known as Shape Note Singing, originated in New England during the 19th century. Pownal International Folk Dance. Town Hall, 7 - 9ish pm. at the Town Hall, (Mallett Hall on Rt. 9 just north of blinking light at Elmwood Rd.) Winter Harbor(June until November) Contradance with Sheep Island Rovers and Jon Archer calling. An evening of mostly contra dances but few polkas, schottiches, waltzes and other unusual couple dances,at the beautiful historic Hammond hall. 7:30 pm in downtown Winter Harbor (just past the only Bank, on the left). No partners neccessary, all dances are taught. $5 admission. If your coming from a long way bring a sleeping bag and stay the night at our place and see the park on Sunday.
